production-specific resources on darkrooms and photo development processes

Video overview on developing film (<4 min)

Note references to the time it takes to develop, baths used, and steps typically performed in light vs. darkness.

Positive film:

Displays a scene directly as photographed, true-to-color. Often used for slides and projections. Available for immediate viewing.

Negative film:

Produces an inverted image, with dark areas appearing light. Color is corrected during processing. Longer-lasting and more detailed.

Stop bath: an acidic or water-based solution used to stop the action of the developer during film development

The act of submersion and washing in water-based substances is key to the stages of film development. Photos capture memories, and thus water has the ability to preserve or destroy them.
